born in poznań, poland, grown up in warsaw in artistic family (mother: gina komasa - singer, father: wiesław komasa - actor) jan komasa had been prepared to be a musician.

after 8 years of primary music school (piano profile) he changed his plans developing his plastic and writing arts skills in humane profiled high schools and philosophy faculty at the university. 

finally he started to be a filmschool/łódź student when he was 19. he was 21 when directed his second year short nice to see you  which was presented on numerous international festivals and won 3rd award at cannes film festival 2004, cinefondation section.

he was 23 when he wrote and directed with two other students from directing department a full lenght three novel cinematic movie ode to joy which won special prize (second in importance) at the biggest polish feature film festival in gdynia 2005. ode to joy has been presented on about 30 international festivals including rotterdam, karlovy wary, london, moscow, cottbus and many others.

komasa is directing other audio-visual forms including documentaries, music videos, tv spots as well. his documentary the baldie was broadcasted in tv (kino polska, canal +) and won special awards on independent film festival in wroclaw/poland.his music video for sistars my music was nominated to mtv best polish video.

komasa is now developing many different projects including feature films, documentaries.
